Ameera David Joins WXYZ/WMYD-TV (Detroit)

Ameera David has joined WXYZ/WMYD-TV as a 7 Action News Anchor/Reporter.  David was the host of “Boom Bust,” RT America’s flagship financial news program. Headquartered in Washington D.C., the show is broadcast daily to 700 million households in over 100 countries worldwide.

Before hosting “Boom Bust,” David was a correspondent and anchor for the general news side of the network. She reported on breaking news stories including the U.S.-led airstrikes in Syria, the Boston bombing and civil unrest in Ferguson, Missouri.

David began her career in TV journalism working in the NBC News Washington bureau as a White House producer, assignment desk manager and production assistant.

This is a homecoming for David who was born and raised in Detroit and attended Detroit Public Schools before her family moved to Northville when she was in high school.

David was also a producer/reporter for Arab where she wrote a weekly column covering issues affecting Arab Americans and co-hosted a special for Detroit Public Television, called “Arab Detroit.”

“I’m thrilled to return to Detroit to report in the community I call home,” said David. “I grew up watching and admiring WXYZ, so I’m especially honored to join this news team, one that’s known for taking action on the stories that have helped to shape and redefine this great city.”

David holds a Master of Science degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

“With Ameera’s experiences and knowledge as a journalist and her familiarity of Detroit, she will have an immediate impact on our news team,” said Rhonda LaVelle, news director for WXYZ/WMYD. “She has deep connections to this area and she will be able to tell the important stories of the people in our community.”
