A Fun Time at Crystal Mountain: MABPAC Announces Annual Fundraiser

The MAB Political Action Committee (MABPAC) would like to invite you to their annual Summer Fundraiser. The event will feature a reception at the Mountain Top along with private chair lift rides at Crystal Mountain Resort with the breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

MABPAC will also be joined by John D. Pirich, Partner, Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohen LLP, an expert specializing in ballot proposals, to discuss predictions for the upcoming 2018 elections and the political climate in Michigan and across the country. Don’t miss this opportunity to ask your campaign related questions and listen to the insider’s forecast for the 2018 election cycle.  Also on-hand will be Rob Elhenicky, Partner and MAB Lobbyist with Kelley Cawthorne in Lansing.

Advocacy Conference Speaker Lineup!

The MAB has announced the speaker lineup for this year’s Advocacy Conference and Annual Meeting, to be held August 22-23 at Crystal Mountain Resort.

MAB members will hear policy and advocacy updates as well as attend the MAB Annual Meeting. The evening activities include the banquet, featuring the Michigan Broadcasting Hall of Fame inductions, Lifetime Achievement Award, and the MAPB Public Media Impact Awards.

Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient and Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

The Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the MAB Foundation are pleased to announce the 2017 Hall of Fame Inductees and the Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient, to be honored Tuesday, August 22 at Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville.

Marla Drutz

This year’s Lifetime Achievement honor goes to Marla Drutz, Vice-President and General Manager of WDIV-TV (Detroit).

Drutz has held her current position since July 28, 2008. Under her leadership, WDIV Local 4 has strengthened its dominance both on-air and online. The station has the top-rated/most watched newscasts and ClickOnDetroit.com is Metro Detroit’s number one media website. Drutz has also bolstered a strong commitment to outstanding community service.

Local 4 News has consistently remained the #1 newscast at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. in Nielsen household ratings for the Detroit television market and Local 4 News at 11 p.m. has maintained the title of highest-rated newscast of all NBC affiliates in the top 11 markets nationwide. In addition, the Local 4 News team has been presented with three highly coveted Edward R. Murrow Awards from the RTDNA for news coverage. Drutz is most proud of WDIV’s 2011 Service To America Award. The prestigious national honor presented by the National Association of Broadcasters recognizes the station’s commitment to outstanding community service.

Prior to joining WDIV, Drutz worked at the E.W. Scripps Company and WXYZ-TV (Detroit) as the Director of Programming. Earlier in her career, she was the Marketing Director at WJBK-TV (Detroit). Drutz began her career as a research analyst at WJW in Cleveland.

Throughout her career in broadcasting, Drutz has received numerous professional awards including Emmy Awards, first-place awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and a “Top Woman in Management” Award from the Detroit Chapter of American Women in Radio and Television. She has been honored as a member of the NATAS Silver Circle and has been selected by Corp! Magazine as one of Michigan’s Top Businesswomen.

A graduate of Leadership Detroit XIII, Drutz is a member of the NBC Affiliate Board of Directors, the National Association of Television Program Executives (NAPTE) and The Adcraft Club of Detroit. She serves on the executive board of the Michigan Chapter of the International Women’s Forum and is a board member of The United Way, The Detroit Convention and Visitors Bureau, New Detroit and Oakland Family Services.

Drutz holds a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in journalism and communication.

Public Media Impact Award Nominations Due June 7

Two awards – one award for Donors and one award for Professionals – will be presented during a banquet at the August 2017 MAB Advocacy Conference & Annual Meeting at Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville, MI.

The awards honor individuals for their contribution to public broadcasting in Michigan.

Donors and Professionals involved in Michigan public radio or television are eligible for nomination. Nominations can be made by colleagues, supervisors, and/or station managers. Activities for which the person is nominated may be long-term, to recognize lifetime contributions to public broadcasting, or more recent, to reflect a concentrated period of achievement.

Deadline for nominations and supporting material (i.e. letters of support, photos and videos) is Wednesday, June 7, 2017.

MAB Advocacy Conference and Annual Meeting

The two-day conference will be a great chance to catch up with fellow broadcasters from around the state and discuss the legislative and regulatory issues facing today’s broadcasters, all at the beautiful Crystal Mountain Resort. If you were with us at Crystal Mountain in 2008, you’ll remember!

Public Media Impact Award Nominations are Open!

Two awards will be presented – one award for Donors and one award for Professionals – for their contribution to public broadcasting in Michigan. The awards will be presented at the Annual Awards Banquet as part of the August 2017 MAB Advocacy Conference & Annual Meeting at Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville, MI, which is attended by owners and operators of broadcast stations, lawmakers and other dignitaries.

Purpose

  • To recognize outstanding individuals involved in public broadcasting for their innovation and creativity.
  • To inspire others involved in public broadcasting to greater achievement in the field of public radio and television.
  • To increase awareness of public broadcasting and the contributions talented individuals make to the industry statewide.

Eligibility
