WLNS Sports Director Fred Heumann Named to CMU Journalism Hall of Fame

On July 9, the Central Michigan University Journalism Hall of Fame announced its 2018 CMU Journalism Hall of Fame Inductees, including WLNS-TV (Lansing) Sports Director Fred Heumann.

Heumann is a 1980 graduate of CMU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Broadcast and Cinematic Arts/Journalism. He served as a sports reporter with WDIV-TV (Detroit) from 1994 to 2000; then joined WXYZ-TV (Detroit) as sports reporter and weekend sports anchor from 2000 to 2003.

He has been with WLNS-TV for the past 15 years.

Other 2018 Inductees include:

  • John Barnes, former statewide journalism projects editor for MLive Media Group and former metro editor of The Grand Rapids Press.
  • Dr. John K. Hartman, emeritus professor CMU Journalism Department, author of “The USA Today Way.”
  • Sheila Reinecke, major account executive, MLive Media Group and national account director Advance Newspapers.

The 2018 Journalism Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held November 3 at Courtyard Mount Pleasant at Central Michigan University. Ticket sales begin next month.
