WXYZ-TV (Detroit) celebrated the region’s top high school graduating seniors at the 37th annual Brightest & Best event on May 14, at the station’s broadcast center in Southfield, Michigan.
Nearly 200 students from schools across Southeast Michigan attended the event. They were joined by their parents and guardians.
The event was broadcast live on the station’s Saturday morning newscasts. Students participated in a Twitter scavenger hunt and had the opportunity to meet WXYZ/WMYD on-air personalities. The program ended with the traditional group hat toss that will be featured in on-air spots.
“We are honored to recognize the academic achievement of these extraordinary students,” said Mike Murri, WXYZ/WMYD vice president and general manager. “This is one of our favorite days at Channel 7. These young people represent the future of our region and our country, and we are pleased to be able to applaud their hard work and dedication.”
Promotional spots featuring the graduates will air on WXYZ beginning in June. Profiles and photos of all the honorees are available here and in a special section on WXYZ’s mobile apps. You can also learn more about the students and experience the event by searching the #BrightestAndBest hashtag.
